Jowls

The term ‘jowls’ refers to the facial sagging towards the lower jawline, either side of the mouth.

Their primary cause is the general ageing process, as the skin loses elasticity, structure and the fat pads within our face start to migrate down the face. This consequently pulls down on the lower face, resulting in quite a haggard look.

There are many different ways to get rid of jowls, depending on your specific requirements. Once we consult with you, we will be able to determine the best treatment plan for you. It could be that we suggest just one treatment, but sometimes the most rewarding results come from combination treatment.

You may be a suitable candidate for Botox muscle relaxant treatment, whereby a concentrated amount of botulinum toxin is injected into the neck and chin muscles, to stop them from gravitating the jawline further.

For those who have strong muscles in this area, the jowls can become more prominent over time, so this is a wonderful solution for both prevention and cure. Botox last around 4 months for the first two years of treatment, but then has a longer impact of between 5-6 months thereafter.

As part of a more complete solution it is important to address facial sagging and volume loss as a whole and treat the mid face area with dermal filler. By reintroducing volume and structure to the mid face, especially the cheeks, we can reposition the skin and rejuvenate the face as a whole.

Finally it is important to remove any excess fat from the jowl area. Probably the safest most effective approach is a combination of Vaser liposuction, Thermage targeted radiofrequency and Ultracel focused Ultrasound. This encourages the production of collagen, which leads to increased skin tightening. Vaser differs from other fat removal systems in that it causes significant post -operative tightening as an added bonus.
