Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
Hyperhidrosis is a common medical condition where a person sweats excessively.
Although sweating is a normal response to heat, exercise and anxiety, in some individuals a hypersensitivity of the glands produces excessive sweat production giving rise to physical and psychologically disabling symptoms. Between 1-3 people in 100 live with the condition in the UK alone. The main areas affected by excessive sweating are the armpits, the palms of the hand, the groin region, the soles of the feet, and the face and chest.
Hyperhidrosis is a long- term condition but can be managed successfully. It can however be embarrassing, cause distress and negatively impact on self esteem and lifestyle
Patients who suffer with hyperhidrosis may have a tendency to avoid physical contact, like hugging and shaking hands. They tend not to get involved in activities that require a lot of movement in front of other people, such as dancing or sports, as this may bring on the sweating more. Excessive sweating makes simple tasks like typing and holding objects, much more difficult and sufferers often tirelessly concentrate on reducing and managing sweat levels, with frequent showers, change of clothes and/or applying deodorant and antiperspirant.
There are a number of helpful successful treatments for this condition. At the Aesthetic Skin Clinic, we believe that Botox injections are a highly effective, proven and safe way of controlling symptoms allowing patients to carry on with their normal lives.
