Whether you’re preparing for botox treatment or laser hair removal in Belfast, Jersey or Guernsey clinic with ASC, before going into surgery, nerves are the most common feeling, and this is completely normal, regardless of what procedure it is. Anxiety can overtake your body, leading to you feeling nervous and, despite knowing the surgeon performs this procedure numerous times a day, it can be difficult to calm and reassure yourself.
Whether you’re worried about the consequences of the surgery, being under aesthetic or worried that complications may occur, here at Aesthetic Skin Clinic we understand they can be difficult to overcome. There are a number of things you can do to calm your nerves before surgery and, following from part one, here are more ways you can overcome your anxiety.
Take Your Mind Elsewhere
It’s so easy to let your thoughts get the better of you when you’re on your own. Distracting yourself is a good way to deter these thoughts that could cause or increase your anxiety. Distraction techniques can help in taking your mind off your upcoming procedure and keep you occupied.
Popular distraction techniques include reading a book, listening to your favourite music, or watching TV shows and movies. All of these things help to take your mind somewhere else and push the thought of surgery to the back of your mind.
Knowledge of Pre-Surgery Instructions
This is similar to keeping yourself distracted, as by occupying your mind with other tasks to do, it gives you other thoughts to occupy your mind. If you are focusing on the things you need to do to get ready for your surgery, then you will find yourself too busy to allow your anxiety and nerves to grow.
Small tasks and thoughts can help, such as:
Packing your bag and making sure you have the right items to bring along to the surgery.
Arranging for rides to and from the surgery and having someone on hand to assist you with day-to-day chores and activities.
Bringing necessary items to help aid your recovery, such as facial tissues, extra pillows, healthy snacks, water bottles and books.
The Sound of Music
Everyone has a favourite type of genre or music you like to listen to. Some people become energised by music, whilst others find it relaxing. The key is to listen to music that makes you feel mellow and relaxed when going into the surgery, rather than music that might fill you with nervous energy. There are many great genres to consider, including:
One thing that can help you immeasurably, is for you to be in your best shape possible. This means taking care of your body to get it ready for surgery. You can do this by:
Eating healthy foods
Getting plenty of rest
Exercise
At the Aesthetic Skin Clinic, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible about your surgery. Our expert team are on hand to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We understand the thought of surgery can seem daunting and intimidating, which is why your comfort is a priority for us.
